National Handloom Day: PM Modi ask nation to use handloom products in our daily lives

August 7th is a “National Handloom Day” for us. Many People across the nation celebrating this day by using the products of Handloom.  Respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday requested the citizens to give a momentum to the handloom sector and use more of the product in daily lives.

So this year “National Handloom Day”, let us come together and give boost to the handloom sector & use more handloom products in our daily lives,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

Handloom Sector plays a very dominant role in India’s employment generation from many decades. Handloom sector is more diverse, eco-friendly and is a source of employment for countless weavers, who will be very motivated by the support.

Mr. Modi also posted a video on his Twitter handle of his speech on the handloom sector and Khadi at the Townhall programme on Handloom day. He also sought that if after agriculture, there is any sector which can create and generate employment poor people, then these are textile, handloom, Khadi, weaving and called these as their biggest strength. ‘Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion’ as one of the principles that could serve as a guide for the people.

Central Textiles Minister Mrs. Smriti Irani will be the guest of honor in the main function which will be held in Varanasi, as per the ministry sources. In 2015, first National Handloom day was celebrated. National Handloom day will be celebrated at state level in all states and in 200 different handloom clusters. With respect to Swadeshi Movement which began on August 7, 1905 and with the aim to generate awareness about the importance of handloom industry and its immense contribution to the socioeconomic growth, the government on July 29, 2015 declared this day as ‘National Handloom Day’.
